4 out of 5 stars Textbook for paralegal training programs; not for general-purpose use   March 22, 2009

This book is designed to be used as a textbook in a paralegal training program. It is may be very well-suited to that specific purpose. However, for a layperson looking for an enhanced understanding of contract law or seeking to expand a business library, this doesn't quite fit the bill.

The book goes into detail on how to formulate a query to conduct computer-assisted legal research, and gives assignments to conduct legal research using LoisLaw. It describes the sources of statutory authority. It provides extensive guidance on how to read and interpret court cases. It also provides information on career opportunities and job placement for paralegals. It's long on theory and short on application. It is full of hypothetical questions and short on clear-cut answers. It contains chapter-end crossword puzzles and fill in the blank self-checks.

That said, it does provide an overview of potential pitfalls in a variety of contract, demonstrated largely through case law. It may be very helpful when used in training paralegals in a classroom setting. If you're looking for general information on contract law rather than a textbook, you might try Nolo's Encyclopedia of Everyday Law: Answers to Your Most Frequently Asked Legal Questions instead.
